Three kinds of lunch trip

Big boat, pasta lunch

The classic full-day loop on a large motor boat, with a plate of seafood pasta served at anchor near Budelli. Same stops and the same crowds as the other big boats, but you don’t need to carry food. Drinks are extra.

Small group, all-inclusive

Motor boats and yachts for 10 or so guests: Sardinian antipasti, pasta, soft drinks and wine, with stops chosen on the day. The boat reaches quieter coves, and lunch is unhurried. On private-style yachts, the boat’s park permit may be split among guests.

Sailing boat or catamaran

The slowest and most comfortable day. Lunch is cooked on board, snorkel kit is usually included, and the route follows the wind. Catamarans give more deck space and shade; monohull sailing boats feel more like real sailing.

Questions people ask

What is lunch on a Maddalena boat trip usually like?

On the big boats that include it, a plate of pasta (often with seafood) served at anchor. On small-group, sailing and catamaran days, Sardinian antipasti, pasta, fruit and drinks, usually with wine; some add Prosecco or local beer.

Can I bring my own food?

On the large motor boats, yes: many passengers bring a packed lunch, and food and drinks are also sold on board. On trips that include lunch, tell the operator about allergies or diets when you book.

Is it worth paying more for lunch on board?

If you value a slower day with fewer people, yes: the lunch trips are almost all small-group boats. If you just want to see the islands, a large boat and a packed lunch costs about half as much.

Is the landing fee included on lunch trips?

Check each listing. Some include La Maddalena’s landing fee (€5 per person in June–August); others ask for it in cash. How the fee works.
